INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

Monday 25 November 2019

On November 25th, 2019 CAME Women and Girls Development  Organisation will celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and girls  with a panel discussion hosting with activist. The aim of the event will be to raise awareness, highlight laws, and seek solutions of working together to eliminate gender-based violence – BREAST IRONING.  Please come share and learn

  • 1 in 3 women and girls experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, most frequently by an intimate partner
  • Only 52% of women married or in a union freely make their own decisions about sexual relations, contraceptive use and health care
  • Worldwide, almost 750 million women and girls alive today were married before their 18th birthday; while 200 million women and girls have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM)
  • 1 in 2 women killed worldwide were killed by their partners or family in 2012; while only 1 out of 20 men were killed under similar circumstances
  • 71% of all human trafficking victims worldwide are women and girls, and 3 out of 4 of these women and girls are sexually exploited
  • Violence against women is as serious a cause of death and incapacity among women of reproductive age as cancer, and a greater cause of ill health than traffic accidents and malaria combined.

Tuesday 15 October International day of the Rural Woman

Tuesday 15 October

The celebration will take place in Jakiri Cameroon 15th October, 2019 from am to 10am – 5pm. Presentation of a research report in Cameroon. The study seeks to correlate how the enhancement of entrepreneurial and agricultural skills of the rural woman can impact on her political and socio-economic growth. It is worth noting that rural women in Cameroon contribute enormously towards nation building and economic development and thus need to be assisted by the government and related civil society organisations to ensure their livelihood sustainability and the fight against poverty. The crucial role that women and girls play in ensuring the sustainability of rural households and communities, improving rural livelihoods and overall well-being, has been increasingly recognised. Women account for a substantial proportion of the agricultural labour force, including informal work, and perform the bulk of unpaid care and domestic work within families and households in rural areas. They make significant contributions to agricultural production, food security and nutrition, land and natural resource management, and building climate resilience.

1st April 2019 Re-Launch of Sewing classes for women at the CAME Women and Girls resource centre in Ealing

FRIDAY 08 March 2019

We hope to increase opportunities for women and girls to set up a social enterprise that represent and respond to their interests and needs where none currently exist; and for the organisation to expand and develop their services for skill training and self employment. Our vision is to teach disadvantaged women and girls to make fabric items using traditional African and western embroidery and ethnic patterns. These items would be purchased from the women as piece work through our social enterprise scheme.

All proceeds from these sales would be returned to the Sewing Initiative social enterprise, first to pay the women engaged in sewing, and then to expand the program by teaching more women. Money also would be used to purchase more sewing machines to present to the women upon their graduation from sewing and tailoring classes, and help them establish home businesses as neighbourhood tailors, an accepted and useful occupation for women and girls to be employed and earned an income.
